Family Services is uniquely qualified in the area of domestic violence
services. Strategies Against Violence Encounters (SAVE) is a comprehensive
treatment program that involves courts, probation/parole staff, police
and victim advocates. Services are offered to both the offender and
children/adult victims.

Special Programs
The Alternative Invervention Method (A.I.M.)
Program is
an award winning program offering families and their children the
chance to
redirect their lives and avoid a criminal record. Services include
home-based counseling for the entire family, service learning projects
for yout and a special youth recreation project. A.I.M. Advantage is
a family based deliquency prevention program for families with young

Shoplifter's Diversion Program targets
youth arrested for shoplifting.
Parent-Infant Beginnings (PIB)
works to improve the health of pregnant women and their babies, as
well as reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect. PIB offers support,
information and referral, and home visits to any Wayne County family
with an infant or anyone who is expecting a child.
N.O.A.H. (Networking, Organizing and Advocacy
for the Homeless) Project provides crisis intervention, mental
health, substance abuse treatment and other services for homeless persons
in downtown Detroit. |
Prevention and Education
Family Life Education promotes
health family life by offering educational workshops to the community,
businesses, schools and Family Service clients. Family Life Education
workshops address such topics as parenting, stress management, conflict
resolution, balancing work and family, substance abuse recovery and
child care decisions.
Innovative Methods for Prevention and Comprehensive
Treatment (I.M.P.A.C.T.) is a substance abuse prevention and
education program designed for young people ages 5 through 17 (K-12)
who have been exposed to alcohol and/or drugs. Services include eight
weekly group meetings for children, with concurrent meetings for parents.
I.M.P.A.C.T. fosters resiliency in children and helps them dealw ith
the stresses they encounter.
Transparenting Program is a four-hour
interactive experience that focuses on how effective parenting during
the time of transition can lessen the negative impact of divorce and
parental seperation on children.

Employee Assistance Program
Employee Assistance Programs contract
with Family Service to provide Short Term Counseling to help employees
cope with personal problems affecting their work performance.
Help may be requested by an employee or family
member. A supervisor may encourage the employee to use the service
when a job performance problem occurs.
Services include:
- Assessment and treatment of substance abuse
- Individual counseling for problems such as stress,
anxiety, and depression
- Marriage and family counseling, including divorce
issues and problems associated with children and youth.
EAP staff are qualified mental health and substance
abuse treatment professionals. Confidential counseling sessions may
be scheduled at any Family Service office. |
There are
five convenient office locations (Canton, Dearborn, Detroit, Southfield,
and Southgate) where the agency offers a variety of counseling services
to individuals, families, couples and groups. Each location is licensed
by the State of Michigan as a substance abuse treatment and mental
health provider. |
